Re: EDUCATION – BOA Degree in Communications and International Relations
Dear Mr Joseph Muscat,
I write to ask for your assistance to revise a decision made on my application with the Malta University to study BOA Degree in Communications and International Relations; which has been rejected.
I applied as a mature age applicant requiring no documents, however, the Faculty of Arts office requested I provide a copy of my CV (which I was unable to update with insufficient computer/internet access), a motivation letter and additional supporting documents to demonstrate my academic abilities. I reminded them that I as a mature applicant it is not a requirement to provide such documents, however, in the spirit of keeping the pace I put together a 5 page brief containing the following:
My motivation letter; including work experience hand written on the back specific to the Malta University...
The Church Speech; a true story demonstrating my interests in Politics and passion to combat violence against women...
The Executive Summary taken directly out of the 37 Page proposal I compiled single handedly; the proposal circulated via email to the relevant ministries demonstrating a need to open Europe's First Rehabilitation Centre for Women and Children of Domestic Violence (to be opened in Malta), titled 'TRENTESTA'...
I further added that post-graduation I not only intend to do my Masters for European Politics, Economics and Law but also want to fill the position for the Chairperson of the Commission for Domestic Violence, a role I intend to be very active in carrying out to see a decline in our current figures that are at epidemic proportions and on the rise...
Just two hours post interview for the above mentioned, security personnel from the Malta University knew before I did that my application was not going to be successful and threw off campus because 'I am not a student', they said;;; and further informed me with deep seated hatred in her tone of voice, '...that I will never be a student with the Malta University and not to bother coming back'. She tried to hide behind Mr Camilleri and said it was him who instructed her to throw me off campus but despite a previous personality clash with Mr Camilleri, I did not believe it to be true, as he's been absent from campus all afternoon. When I challenged the excuses, she quickly changed her story and then it become almost unbelievable, so I told her to call the police who never arrived.
It is no secret that my husband has been using the campus as a private place to continue his extramarital affairs, a place where he is strongly supported by his own community and tight social circles and much to my surprise, as I was leaving the campus my husband entered with his latest interest!!!
My interview was on the 17th September, 2015; on the 25th of September, 2015, I was personally handed a letter from the Malta University informing me of my failed application to study the BOA Degree in Communications and International Relations – three years full time. Their reasons was that I do not have the education required despite requiring no documents.
I have made every effort to gain assistance via the correct channels to overturn the above mentioned decision that has effectively excluded me from tertiary studies with the Malta University, as mentioned above;;; and have since been arrested for standing outside the Ministry for Education and Employment (with the knowledge of security staff of my reasoning) to gain Mr Everast Bartolo's direct attention for a quick 10 minute talk prior to commencement – the meeting was urgent with university starting the very next day; there was no other way to pursue my education, as it was the same ministry (front line staff) who banned me without reason, from going upstairs and scheduling an appointment directly with Mr Bartolo's private secretary – the correct way;;; furthermore, my emails have gone unanswered and as a homeless person, I can not afford to maintain a mobile phone;;; it was the OPM who instructed me to talk to Mr Bartolo directly with regards to my failed application, as it is not their area and rightfully so;;; the police (after they arrested me, who later released me with no ongoing concerns) have instructed me to refrain from re-entering the Ministry for Education and Employment under any circumstances and because I am compliant with authorities who abide by the law, this is no longer an option. I have further made public an email to the President, Ms Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, asking for her assistance to overturn my failed application - I AM ONLY ASKING FOR AN EDUCAITON.
I have been forced into homelessness because of a system that has failed me – the underlying issue 'Domestic Violence' – a crime that was born of infidelity and supported by police corruption...
I suppose my greatest concern is that if I wait another year, I run the risk of new rules for mature aged entry taking affect in 2016; in particular the University of Malta with the support of the relevant ministry (for Education and Employment) raising the bar so high that it becomes unreachable for mature age applicants (who can not produce documentation) that puts them on the same level as high school graduates applying for the same course – which effectively discriminates based on age; documents that at my age, I can not possibly be expected to produce (at 41 years), effectively closing me out of the equation all together; which is exactly what happened with my application for the Law Degree I placed with The Malta University in 2014 – there was another political issue at hand with regards the Law Degree that I applied for, however, there is no need re-hash at this point in time.
It is my understanding that The Labour Party is an Enabling Government that strongly supports Education, a government that has made every effort to eradicate all forms of corruption allowing people a voice, and therefore, it is not unreasonable to expect a successful application for a course that I applied with the Malta Univeristy to study Politics, (despite my somewhat diverse political views) as a mature aged applicant – an application requiring no documents that automatically qualifies me.
Here in this formal but open letter, I am asking for an education and as 'the people's government', I'm sure that you can appreciate time is of the essence due to lecture starting on Monday 5th September, 2015 – in two days' time.
